The Research and Science Behind Yohimbine

Updated on March 23, 2015

Yohimbine is derived from the bark of a west African evergreen tree. We always prefer quality standardized extracts from natural sources instead of the cheap synthetic versions used by our competitors. The ingredient has a track record of usage, primarily because Yohimbine dilates the blood vessels and may lower blood pressure. Yohimbine is also commonly used as a natural way to increase sex drive and the strength of erections for men. On the cognitive enhancement side, Yohimbine is known for its energy-boosting qualities. This herbal supplement is in our study pill as a productivity enhancer, because it may help support increased motivation, focus, mental performance, and stamina on demanding tasks.

History of Yohimbe Bark

Traditionally yohimbe bark has been used in Africa to treat fevers, coughs, and leprosy. From ancient times, yohimbe was often taken by warriors throughout Africa in preparation for battle. Yohimbe was also taken during fertility celebrations, mating, and marriage rituals.

The Effect of Yohimbine on Brain Serotonin Metabolism

Following the administration of yohimbine, the levels of norepinephrine (NE), dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC), homovanillic acid (HVA), and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5HIAA) increased significantly in the lateral ventricular fluid of rats. Yohimbine administration also increased intracellular DA levels in the corpus striatum. These findings indicate that yohimbine promotes focus, concentration, and healthy brain activity. Yohimbine Easily Penetrates the Blood-Brain Barrier

Yohimbe is seen as a vasodilator increasing blood flow to the extremities, a nootropic substance increasing brain activity, and an anti-oxidant. Yohimbine is an alpha-2 receptor agonist which easily penetrates the blood-brain barrier. We welcome you to read the full studies yourself, please click for citations and links
